FishTech ("we", "our", or "us") operates the FishTech mobile application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
By using FishTech, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Fishing Trip Data: Locations, dates, target species, and fishing conditions you enter when planning trips
- Catch Logs: Fish species, sizes, locations, and photos you choose to record
- Account Information: Email address and authentication data if you sign in with Apple or Google
- Guide Conversations: Messages you send to the AI Guide assistant and the responses received
- Fly Box Data: Fly patterns, quantities, and box organisation you manage within the app
- Gear Inventory: Fishing gear you mark as owned within the app
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers
- Usage Data: Features used, screens viewed, interaction patterns
- IP Address: Used for rate limiting and approximate location
- Crash Reports: Technical information when the app encounters errors
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Authentication Providers: If you sign in with a third-party service, we receive basic profile information
- Payment Processors: Subscription status (we do not receive or store payment card details)
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide Services: Generate AI-powered fly recommendations, gear lists, fishing insights, and personalised Guide chat responses
- Improve the App: Analyse usage patterns to enhance features and fix issues
- Manage Subscriptions: Process and manage your premium subscription
- Display Advertisements: Show relevant ads to free-tier users
- Communicate: Send service-related notifications and updates
- Prevent Abuse: Rate limiting and fraud prevention
4. AI and Data Processing
FishTech uses artificial intelligence in two ways:
4.1 Fly Recommendations
When you request fly recommendations for a trip:
- Your trip details (location, date, species) are sent to our servers
- Our servers process this with AI services to generate recommendations
- We do not send personal identifiers (name, email) to AI services
4.2 Guide AI Assistant
The Guide is an AI-powered fishing companion available to Expert subscribers. When you use Guide:
- Your chat messages are sent to OpenAI's API for processing
- Guide may access your catch history, trip data, and fly box contents to provide personalised advice
- Conversations are stored securely on our servers to maintain context across sessions
- Voice messages are transcribed using OpenAI's Whisper service
- We do not send personal identifiers (name, email) to OpenAI
- All AI-generated responses are clearly identified as coming from an AI assistant
You can delete your Guide conversation history at any time by starting a new conversation or deleting your account.
5. Third-Party Services
FishTech uses the following third-party services that may collect data:
5.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)
Free users see advertisements powered by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:
- Device advertising identifiers
- IP address and general location
- App usage and interaction data

5.2 RevenueCat (Subscriptions)
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. They process:
- Purchase transactions and subscription status
- Anonymous user identifiers

5.3 Microsoft Azure (Cloud Infrastructure)

5.4 Affiliate Partners
When you click shopping links, you are directed to third-party websites governed by their own privacy policies. We may receive anonymised information about purchases for commission purposes.
5.5 OpenAI
We use OpenAI's API to process Guide chat messages and fishing data to generate AI recommendations. We do not share personal identifiers with OpenAI. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Storage and Security
- Trip data, catch logs, and fly box data are stored locally on your device and optionally synced to our secure cloud servers for Expert subscribers
- Guide conversations are stored on Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure
- Data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL
- We use enterprise-grade security infrastructure
- We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services
- You can delete all your data including catch logs, trips, fly boxes, and Guide conversations by using the "Delete Account" option in the app
7. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR and applicable data protection laws, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
- Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data
- Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
- Object: Object to processing of your personal data
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

8. Children's Privacy
FishTech is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries outside the UK, including the United States and the European Union. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Posting the new policy in the App
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top
- Sending a notification for material changes
